The tree cake of Lithuania

Spread the love

Have you ever tried a cake which was cooked on a spit on the streets? No, it’s not what you are thinking. Spit is a solid rod which is used to hold food as it gets cooked over the fire. Sakotis is a cake which is cooked over the open fire oven as it gets rolled. The fast spinning spit gives the dripping batter a spiky look. This traditional cake of Lithuania looks like a Christmas tree with a slight scent of vanilla.
In Druskininkai and Ignalina you could get to see the demonstrations of baking Sakotis. Don’t forget to book in advance!
