The coconut spread

Spread the love

Kaya or the coconut jam is a fruit curd or food spread made from a base of coconut milk, eggs and sugar. With its origin in Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines, this coconut jam is popular in the Southeast Asia. It has a texture similar to khoya which is used as a base for desserts in India. That’s probably how coconut jam got its name or it could just mean rich as in Malay language.
Kaya can also be used as a topping for various desserts.
