So I was at this cafe with my friend. She ordered 4 coffees but we were only two. So I asked her about the two extra coffees. She said they are pending coffees.
pending coffee is a cup of coffee paid for in advance as an anonymous act of charity. The tradition began in the working-class cafés of Naples, where someone who had experienced good luck would order a sospeso, paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one. A poor person enquiring later whether there was a sospeso available would then be served a coffee for free. Coffee shops in other countries have adopted the sospeso to increase sales, and to promote kindness and caring in all communities.
This was started by John M. Sweeney. he is the founder and chief kindness officer of a global social movement called Suspended Coffees. He believes that kindness matters to every one of us. So much of what he does centers around kindness. he knows just how powerful an impact it can have, on communities as well as workplaces.
For more than three years he has led a worldwide kindness movement called Suspended Coffees. Each week their messages of kindness and hope reach over 2 million people. They have over 2000 cafes in 34 different countries supporting this movement.
John is one of those people that can change your life just by spending time with him. The way he approaches every human interaction has for me redefined what it means to be human. If you want to feel good about the world and or open a window into how you can be a better person then getting John to coach you or speak for you is an absolute must.
